Part a: Change Challenges and Required Changes to Support Changes in IBM Strategy
In realizing change, there may be some challenges hindering the change process. In the IBM case, one of the challenges is the organizational culture. The company’s culture is integral in the change process since it can motivate employees to approach the company’s issues creatively. Indeed, creativity emerges as an important success factor in the area of business technology. In realizing the desired change, the company had to focus on its corporate culture. The organizational culture is integral in leading to business growth.
Another challenge is limited support for business process flexibility. The challenge is founded on the entity’s focus on innovation and brilliance (Bivins, 2014). Although workers have real suppleness in their jobs, their flexibility is not essentially unswervingly interpreted to the business processes’ flexibility. Moreover, the company faces a challenge in failure to have formal backing in self-evaluation and correction of units and groups in the organization.
Different changes may be needed to back changes in the IBM plan. One of the changes that would be recommended is the implementation of a cultural characteristic that increases flexibility in business operations. Besides, another recommended change is the integration of self-assessing and self-regulation in the cultural attribute of personal responsibility and trust in all relationships.
