HSC503 PROPOSAL

The research shall seek to establish communication behaviors in a health care setting, with a specific focus on communication between health care workers. Therefore, the research question shall be developed to capture this research area of interest. This section shall also look into the two theoretical perspectives behind research, including the functionalist and conflict perspectives. An analysis of these two perspectives shall give a clear picture of which one will be the best fit in answering the research question. Previous research on communication behaviors among health care workers shall then be perused to come up with a literature review geared towards elaborating the research question.

Most research that do not require ethical approval are those that do not present any harm to the research subjects. Observational research is one such example. The pilot research project shall be an observational study on the communication behaviors in a health care setting. There are three research methodologies under observational research that will be considered for the research project. These methodologies include naturalistic observations, controlled observations, and participant observations. The data collection methods available for these methodologies include recording sheets and checklists, observation guides, and field notes. These methods may be used individually or combined to meet the project’s data collection needs.

The collected shall be evaluated using appropriate data analysis methods such as content analysis and thematic analysis. The analyzed data shall generate the results of the study. These results shall then produce discussion and conclusions on the research project.
