To complete the learning activity you should do the following:

  1. Read chapter nine in DeLamater and Collett’s “Social Psychology.” 
  2. Watch “Mini Lecture #1: Chapter 9 – Nonverbal Communication,” posted in Canvas.
  3. Complete the tasks and answer questions posed below in bold or a different color font.
  4. Save the document as a Word or Pdf document.
  5. Submit via Canvas before 11:59 pm on the due date.
    1. Please verify your submission in Canvas in order to ensure that you uploaded the document you intended to submit.
  6. Please refer to syllabus for late activity policies. 

Tasks/Questions (please make room as needed to provide a quality answer):

  1. Refer to chapter nine in DeLamater and Collett and:
    1. Define what is meant by kinesics.
    1. Define what is meant by proxemics.
    1. Define what is meant by personal effects.
  2. Follow the link to watch a short silent film about the Power of Kindness.
  3. Based upon the film that you just watched, evaluate how, in the absence of spoken language, the film makers communicate complex stories and emotions.  Take note of the non-verbal communication used to communicate with the audience.  Then, analyze how the film makers communicate details such as the character’s status or relation to another character through the use of:
    1. Kinesics
    1. Proxemics
    1. Personal effects
